Eleanor Harms, 96, of Wellsburg, passed away on Wednesday February 23, 2016 at Parker Place in Parkersburg. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Bruce Zimmermann officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26th from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Shiloh Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
She was born on July 10, 1919 in Butler County, Iowa on the family farm, the daughter of Harvey & Cordelia (Fisher) Vahlsing. She married Norman Harms in rural Wellsburg on February 14th, 1939. He preceded her in death.
Eleanor worked with her husband on the farm where she lived until she was over 90 years of age. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg and was a church organist for over 70 years. She was also a 4-H leader.
Eleanor is survived by her children Catherine (Lowell) Riekena and Leon (Sharon) Harms, both of Wellsburg; grandchildren Miekka (Jeff) Stover of South Elgin, IL, Sarah (Derek) Eilderts of Corcoran, MN, Monica (Phil) Laube of Holland, IA, Alan Harms of Munster, Germany and Laura (Eric) Marzen of Waukee, IA; great-grandchildren Brianna & Brandon Stover, Kaitlyn & Heidi Eilderts, Amber, Whitney, Tanner & Carson Laube and Corbin & Louisa Marzen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman; sister Lorraine; special family member Don Vahlsing.
