Eldon D. Veld, 81, of Eldora, Iowa died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Eldora United Methodist Church with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Eldora. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W. Roll-Harless Post #3974 of Eldora. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Online condolences may made to the Veld family at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com

Eldon Dean Veld, son of Jacob and Mary Niehaus Veld was born on May 23, 1934 in Conrad, Iowa. He received his education from the Whitten Community School and earned his teaching certification in vocational agriculture from Iowa State University. On October 24, 1958 he married Genevieve Helen Larson at his parent's home in Steamboat Rock. Eldon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1959. The couple resided in Steamboat Rock for two years before moving to Eldora. Eldon worked for over 34 years at the Iowa State Training School for Boys where he was a vocation instructor. He was a proud member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. Eldon enjoyed gardening, puzzle books, coffee with his friends and visiting with people. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, loved his flower garden and going to auctions.

Survivors include his loving wife Genevieve of Eldora; children, Kay (Randy) Davison also of Eldora; Eldon, Jr. (Connie) Veld of Union; Trudie (Jim) Wood of Blue Earth, MN; grandchildren, Natalie Kass, Dustin Veld, Morgan Veld, Kayla Wood and Amber Wood; four great grandchildren; and his brother, Clarence (Virginia) Veld of Marshalltown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Paul Veld and his granddaughter, Megan Davison.
