Elaine Venenga

October 21, 1946 — December 9, 2012

Elaine K. Venenga, age 66, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. Burial will follow the funeral service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Elaine was born on October 21, 1946 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Gladys (Hempen) Bakker. She graduated from Grundy Center High School with the Class of 1964. After graduation she began working in Cedar Falls as a librarian. Later she went on to work at the ASCS office in Grundy Center. Beginning in 1974, Elaine worked for Heronimus Schmidt and Allen Law Office for 38 years as a legal secretary.

Elaine was united in marriage to Keith Venenga on March 4, 1966 at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. Together they made their home in Grundy Center and welcomed three children into their family. Elaine was an active member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and served the church as Treasurer, a Wednesday School Teacher and played in the Bethany Bell Choir. She was a member of the Red Hats Society, the Business Women's Club and the Grundy Center Senior Citizens Housing Board. Elaine was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports. She took great pride in her children and their accomplishments. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family and her pride and joy were her grandchildren.

Elaine is survived by her mother Gladys Bakker; children, Kevin (Kimra) Venenga, Kent (Jenn) Venenga, and Emily (Jason) Schuneman; grandchildren Kalianne, Kyle, Tyler, Paige, Erica, Bryce and Trevor. She was preceded in death by her father john H. Bakker; husband Keith and brother Jim Bakker.
