Effie (Meyer) Hook, 95, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday November 30 2005, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa.
Effie was born March 12, 1910 in rural Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Ausbrand and Gepka ?VanDeest? Meyer. Effie attended the rural Grundy country schools. On February 8, 1933 she was united in marriage to Fritz Hook. The couple farmed and lived in the Holland area until the death of Fritz in 1971. Effie moved to Holland in 1972. She enjoyed traveling, taking many bus trips with groups from the local area. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed her five grandchildren and spent a lot of time with them as they were growing up. Effie was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women?s Group.
Effie moved to the Ackley Presbyterian Village in January 2000. She then moved to the Grundy Care Center in August 2003. She continued living there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fritz; her parents: Ausbrand and Gepka Meyer; 2 brothers: Marcus and Eldon Meyer; and a sister: Reka Hook Knock.
Survivors include her son: Dennis and his wife Norma Hook of Grundy Center, Iowa; and a daughter: Shirley and her husband LeRoy Huesman of Parker, Colorado; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; Brenda and Terry DeBoer of Hampton, Iowa and their children Jared and Kyle; Bryon and Lorie Hook of Holland, Iowa, and their children Brent, Trevor, and Brady, Julaine and Brian Bidleman of Fort Dodge, Iowa and their children Rayni and Cayci, Lisa and Dan Orth of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and their children Alexander and Lucas; Todd and Susan Huesman of Sheldon, Iowa and their son Nicholas; and a sister Leola Hook of Holland, Iowa.
