Edwin F. Gibson, 77, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday,
January 12, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Daniel C. Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa, with military rites provided by Grundy Center American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS Post #17 Visitation will be Tuesday, January 11, 2005, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa, where the family will be present the entire time to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice-Grundy County, the American Cancer Society, and the Alzheimer's Association.
Edwin was born September 9, 1927, in Hudson, Iowa, the son of Perl and Hazel (East) Gibson. Edwin was educated in the Grundy Center School System and graduated from high school there in 1945. Edwin served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on August 30, 1953. On November 13, 1955, Edwin was united in marriage to Caroline Rindels at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. Edwin worked for the City of Grundy Center for forty years as the Public Works Director. He was a charter member of the Hawkeye Fly Fishing Club. Edwin loved to fish and he loved the Chicago Bears.
He is survived by his wife Caroline Gibson of Grundy Center, Iowa; four daughters Vicki Roschen and her husband Tom of Waterloo, Iowa; Debbi Fernow and her husband Nat of Birmingham, Alabama; Dotti Augustine and her husband John of Lakeville, Minnesota; Becki Shuey and her husband Darwin of Grundy Center, Iowa; five grandchildren Thomas Roschen, Adam & Jill Fernow, and Tyler and Greg Augustine; and two sisters-in-law Jeanette Gibson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Donna Gibson of Greeley, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Bonnie Hulne and Mary Harper; and two brothers Victor and Robert Gibson.
