Edward Junior "Short" Cole, 62, of Eldora, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at The Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, April 25, 2008 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with burial to follow at the Union Cemetery in Union, Iowa. Visitation is at the funeral home from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Edward was born July 1, 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa, son of Cecil and Dona (Anderson) Cole. He was raised in the Union, Iowa area and has spent the majority of his life in the Eldora and Union area. On February 12, 1964 Edward was united in marriage to Linda Mabe. Edward held several jobs during his life including the Union Elevator, driving a gravel truck for Bob Johnson, LaVelle Oil Station, and was self employed as a lawnmower repair man and woodcraftsman. He was a collector of keys, pins, watches, and NASCAR memorabilia.
Surviving is his mother, Dona of Unionville, Missouri; children, Karen (John) Cole of Eldora, Pete (Michelle) Cole of Indianola, Teri (Phil Wallace) Cole of Eldora; sister Carolyn (Jerry) Devries of Reinbeck; and grandchildren, Shelby, Zack, and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda in 2004; his father, Cecil; sister, Judy Mabe; and mother-in-law, Vernita Mabe.
