Edna May Sebekow, 78, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck, with Pastor Bruce Boyce officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 18, 2008, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present to greet friends at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. A memorial fund has been established.
Edna May Aswegen Sebekow was born January 18, 1930 in Stout, Iowa, the daughter of Henry C. and Mamie (Renken) Aswegen. She received her education in the Orange Township and Dinsdale schools. After her education was completed, Edna did housekeeping for several area families. On December 16, 1951, Edna was united in marriage to Edwin Lester Sebekow in Reinbeck. After their marriage, they made their home in Reinbeck. Edna did daycare, worked for the Reinbeck Canning Factory and did seasonal work during the fall harvest at the Pioneer Seed Plant. Her husband Edwin died on January 26, 1975, and Edna continued to make Reinbeck her home.
Edna was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck. She had also been a member of the Reinbeck American Legion Action Post #242 Auxiliary, and the Lincoln AMVETS Post #10 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Ceila Sebekow of Reinbeck; two sons, Curtis Sebekow of Reinbeck; Craig Sebekow and his wife Debbie of Reinbeck; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Aswegen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; one sister, Lillian Aswegen; and two brothers, Elmer Aswegen and Edward Aswegen.
