Edna Mae Kruse, 96, of Eldora, passed away on Saturday, December 21st at the Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 11:00 A.M. at the Eldora United Methodist Church with visitation held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Private burial will take place at the Eastlawn Memory Garden in Eldora.
Edna was born on March 23, 1917 in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of Ed & Minnie Belle (Polley) Luiken. She grew up in Steamboat Rock, where she attended school. On October 14, 1942, Edna was united in marriage to Martin H. Kruse at the Baptist Parsonage in Steamboat Rock. The couple lived in Steamboat Rock and welcomed three daughters into their family. In 1971, Edna & Martin moved to Eldora. Edna worked for Infantseat Co. in Eldora for 18 years until their closing and then went on to work for Dodger Industries for 6 years, retiring in 1979. She also worked as a housekeeper in Eldora & Steamboat Rock.
She was a member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church and was previously very involved at Dorothy's Senior Center in Eldora. Edna enjoyed needlework, sewing, gardening, crafts and traveling. She was a wonderful cook but most importantly, a wonderful wife, mom & grandma. She will be forever loved and remembered by those she leaves to cherish her memory.
Edna is survived by her daughters Karen (Lonny) Speas of Ames, NE, Beverly Kruse of Eldora, IA & Linda (Curt) Smith of Marshalltown, IA; 6 grandchildren Michael (Nicole) Speas of Mitchell, SD, Calvin Speas of Ames, NE, Troy (Jennifer) Speas of Valentine, NE, Sondra (Van) Allen of Rogers, AR, Scott (Katie) Lujan of Washington, IA and Amanda Smith of Des Moines, IA; 7 great-grandchildren Heather Speas, Jackieann Helma, Cameron & Dalton Speas, Becky Allen, Isabella, Olivia & Sophia Lujan and Harper Steward; great-great grandchildren Jaden, Violet and Tanner Helma; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin, June 15, 1996; brothers Lyle & Charles Luiken and sister Anna Siems.
