E. Beecher Crosley, 91, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Thursday, February 03, 2005 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday, February 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora with Pastor Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. There will be Masonic services beginning at 5:00 pm during the visitation at the funeral home.



Beecher was born April 22, 1913, in Randall, Iowa, son of L. Monford and Edith May (Beecher) Crosley. They moved to Lawn Hill when Beecher was two and at the age of sixteen Beecher graduated with the New Providence class of 1929. He moved to Eldora in 1930 and on June 3, 1934 was united in marriage to Ruth M. Mohr. Ruth died on June 9, 1963 and on November 14, 1965 Beecher was united in marriage to Winnifred H. Putnam.



He owned and operated Crosley Farm Store in Eldora for 58 years selling Ralston Purina Feeds and Pioneer Seed. In conjunction with the farm store he also sold and delivered coal, operated a chicken hatchery, turkey farm, sold Modern Woodman Life Insurance, and had a dealership for GBH Way Homeway Homes.



He was a 75 year member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader, served as treasurer for 20 years, and sang in the choir for 25 years, also singing with an area barbershop quartet. He was a 66 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a 60 year member of the Eldora Rotary Club receiving the Paul Harris Fellowship award, and was a F.F.A. and high school band booster. Beecher served on the Eldora Chamber of Commerce for 58 years, serving one term as president, and was voted "Man of the Year" in 1980. Beecher's community involvement also included serving on the Library Board, Hospital Planning and Finance Committee and Eldora Chamber of Commerce Planning and Development Board. He was active with the Hardin County Historical Building, the Farm Museum, and helped make plans to build the youth building at the county fairgrounds.



Surviving is his wife Winnifred; daughters, Dixie Crosley Harrington of Davenport, Tamma Crosley (Richard) Gaynor of Pleasant Hill, Polly Crosley (David) Granzow of Eldora, Barbara Putnam Larson of Clinton, and Pamela Putnam (Bob) Kauffman of Grayslake, Illinois; son, Dennis Putnam of Waienae, Hawaii; and by 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his first wife Ruth; sister, Bess Furlong; and grandson, Dennis Putnam Jr.; and son-in-law, Paul Larson.
