Duane Steinfeldt

Duane C. Steinfeldt, 65, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa , died at his home while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, July 9 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.





Duane was born April 4, 1944 in Eldora, son of Walter E. and Esther V. (Frerichs) Steinfeldt. He attended grade school and Jr. high school in Iowa Falls then graduated from Steamboat Rock High School with the class of 1962. On October 3, 1969 Duane was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Thilges at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. They made their home in Steamboat Rock and to this union were born two daughters, Jenn and Krystal. Duane worked construction with his father for several years and also as an auto mechanic for Eichmeier Auto in Ackley before working as a painter for Jim Riggins for about ten years. He then worked independently as a painter for about fifteen more years before accepting employment with the Iowa State Training School for Boys in Eldora where he worked for about nine years before retiring in the late 1990s.





He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church , had served with the Iowa National Guard out of Iowa Falls , and had also been active with the Steamboat Rock Jaycees and the Steamboat Rock Volunteer Fire Department. Duane greatly enjoyed attending his daughters many sporting events and loved fishing, auto racing, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.





Duane is survived by his wife, Liz; daughters, Jenn of Des Moines and Krystal of Urbandale; and sister, Dee (Larry) Meints of Steamboat Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents.
