D. Sheridan Roberts

David Sheridan “Duff” Roberts, 82, of Reinbeck, passed away on June 7, 2019, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, June 10, from 5-7 PM at French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. The memorial gathering will resume at the church at 10 AM from the evening prior. Memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to a cause of their choosing at a later date. Abels Funeral And Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel, is taking care of Duff and his family. David “Duff” Roberts was born on June 27, 1936, on the family farm outside of Reinbeck. He attended country school and later attended Reinbeck High School, graduating with the class of 1955. Duff was united in marriage to Betty Morgan on November 12, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton, IA. He worked for Snider equipment, a local welding shop in Reinbeck for a time before working as an electrician for Stickfort Electric. Duff owned his own company, Roberts Electric, owning and operating that business for 25 years, serving Reinbeck and the surrounding communities. He later worked for Grundy County Emergency Management for thirteen years, finally retiring in 2002.

Duff enjoyed woodworking in his spare time, making holiday decorations, shelving, and knick-knacks when he had the time. He and Betty were frequent campers at Hickory Hills north of Dysart for many years. Duff served on the Reinbeck Fire Department for 52 years, serving as Chief for 18 years. He was immensely proud of his service to the community and enjoyed spending time at the fire house with his friends and fellow firefighters.

Duff is survived by his loving wife Betty of Reinbeck; sons David (Lindi) Roberts of New Bloomfield, Missouri, Daryl “Duff” (Debbie) Roberts of Dallas Center, Iowa, Scott (Denise) Roberts of Frisco, Colorado, and Doug Roberts of Reinbeck; grandchildren Justin (Kelly) Roberts, Ryan (Kelsey) Roberts, Karson Roberts, Andrew Roberts, Duncan Roberts, Lilli Roberts, Ileigha Roberts, and Brandy Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Sherrill “Doc” Roberts.
