Dr. Randy A. Sevcik, 41, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Friday, December 14, 2007. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama, Iowa, with Father Dennis Quint and Father Michael Mescher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, rural Clutier, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18, 2007, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with a Scriptural Wake Service at 5:00 P.M. and a Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M., at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Cedar Valley Hospice, or to the Knights of Columbus.
Randy Alan Sevcik was born November 20, 1966, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Larry Frank and Rita Catherine (Behounek) Sevcik. Randy was raised on a farm in rural Tama County. He attended South Tama High School, graduating with the class of 1985. Randy then received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Iowa in 1989 and graduated from the University of Iowa College on Medicine in 1993. On July 27, 1991, Randy was united in marriage to Jean Marie Schnack at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier, Iowa. Randy was a Physician at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. As a Physician, recently focusing on emergency room care, he saved the lives of countless others.
He was an active member of the Holy Family Parish- Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Randy enjoyed woodworking, making many gifts for his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, loved the outdoors and gardening. Randy also volunteered at his children's school and helped to coach his daughters' soccer teams. Randy was also a University of Iowa Club member.
He is survived by his wife Jean Sevcik of Grundy Center, Iowa; three daughters Kelly, Kristina and Kathryn Sevcik all at home; his parents Larry and Rita Sevcik of rural Toledo, Iowa; his brother Rick Sevcik and his wife Leslie and their children Molly and Tom of Evanston, Illinois; his sister Mary Tyndall and her husband Jerry of Le Grange, North Carolina; his grandfather-Frank Sevcik of Tama, Iowa; his mother-in-law Marie Lindon of Shelby, Iowa; one sister-in-law-Dana Lindon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one brother-in-law- Jeff Schnack and his wife Lynda of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Blanche Sevcik; and his maternal grandparents Louis and Emma Behounek.
