Douglas Seeman

April 10, 1919 — October 22, 2006

Douglas Seeman was born on April 10, 1919 in Crystal Township, Tama County, son of John N. H. and Amy E. (Morse) Seeman. He grew up in Traer, IA. Douglas graduated from Traer High School in 1937. After high school, Douglas worked as a farm hand for 2 years before moving to California to work in the olive groves, and live with his brother, Frank. On March 20, 1941, Douglas enlisted in the U.S. Army, to serve as a signalman during WWII. Douglas was stationed in the European theater where he was involved in many campaigns and was also awarded the Bronze Star. After being discharged from the service in September 1945, Douglas returned to Iowa. On August 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruth Henningsen in Lincoln, IA. Together, they farmed south of Grundy Center until their retirement in 1980 when they moved into Grundy Center. Ruth died on March 10, 1989. Douglas married Marian Walling on April 28, 1990. Douglas enjoyed traveling the area reading meters for REC in retirement. During the winter, Douglas and Marian loved spending time in their home in San Benito, TX. He also enjoyed woodworking. Douglas was a lifelong member of the Salem Church of Lincoln where he served as Sunday school teacher, choir leader, and on the church board. Douglas was also a member of both American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS 17.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Marian of Grundy Center; daughter, Cynthia Seeman of Gladbrook, IA; two sons, John (Nancy) Seeman of Los Altos, CA, James (Dee) Seeman of Beaman, IA; step-son, Ronald (JoEllen) Walling of Loveland, CO; seven grandchildren, Amy Welton, Doug Haessig; Mike, Lisa, JoAnn, Jamie and Michaela Seeman; five step-grandchildren, Tyson, Tara Lee, John (Brenda), Jeff and Jill Walling; two Great-grandchildren and four step-Great-grandchildren.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth; sister, Dorothy Bade; brother, Frank Seeman; step-son, John ?Jack? Walling.
