Douglas Coffman

June 26, 1958 — August 6, 2014

Douglas Lavern Coffman, 56, of Eldora, passed away August 6, 2014, at Eldora Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on June 26, 1958, in Osceola, Iowa to Kenneth and Betty (Kimes) Coffman.

Doug was raised on a farm in Eldora. He loved the outdoors and from the time he was a young boy, until his illness, Doug would rather have been outdoors than anywhere else. Doug especially enjoyed playing volleyball, hunting, canoeing and camping. Growing up, Doug was involved with little league and 4H. He graduated from Eldora High School with the class of 1976. Upon graduation Doug attended Iowa Central Community College, in Fort Dodge, and graduated from the Masonry and Carpentry Program. Doug worked in the construction business after graduation, and eventually opened his own construction business, Coffman Construction. Doug's work can be seen in many projects in Hardin County.

Doug married the love of his life, Anita Walters, on September 7, 1985. It was of course an "outdoor" wedding at the Chapel on the Hill near Eldora. Doug and Anita started their life together in Eldora, and eventually fulfilled their dream of developing the acreage they called home. It became their refuge from the world, allowing Doug to fulfill his passion for hunting and their love for nature. Doug was a member of the Eldora Volunteer Fire Department, and supported the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement.

Those left to cherish Doug's memory are his wife Anita; mother, Betty Coffman; sister, Sandy (Sam) Proctor, brother-in-law, Bryan Rotgers; nieces, Jamie, Abby, and Kelly, and extended family and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Coffman, and his sister Vicky Rotgers.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, August 11, 2014, at Eldora United Methodist at 10:30 am. Visitation will take place at Creps-Abels Funeral Home on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Burial will follow the service on Monday at Jackson Township Cemetery in Owasa.
