Doug Frerichs

Douglas G. Frerichs, 60, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, died Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, after a long battle with lung cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora , Iowa , with Father Kenneth Gehling officiating. Burial will follow at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery in Steamboat Rock, Iowa . Visitation will be Monday, October 6, 2008, from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. A memorial fund has been established.



Douglas Gene Frerichs was born on November 26, 1947, in Eldora , Iowa , the son of Arthur and Betty (Van Dornum) Frerichs. He lived in Steamboat Rock all his life, graduating from Steamboat Rock High School in 1966, and then attending one year at Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls . Doug had also served in the Iowa Falls National Guard. On May 24, 1969, Doug was united in marriage to Marcia Sexton at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City . After their marriage, they made their home in Steamboat Rock. Doug was employed by the Thermogas Company in Eldora for ten years, and then he went to work for Dayco Products in Eldora, working there for thirteen years until they closed. Doug was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, as well as the Steamboat Rock Boat Club. He had been a former member of the Steamboat Rock Volunteer Fire Department, the Steamboat Rock Jaycees, and had served as a former Board Member of the Friendly Valley Apartments. Doug enjoyed the out of doors, especially trapping, trout fishing at Highlandville, and deer hunting. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs and Hawkeyes fan. The last three years he thoroughly enjoyed his grandson Tyler, who was the “apple of his eye.”



Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Marcia Frerichs, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; two daughters, Renee Frerichs and her partner Jerry Carter and Jerry’s son, Kevin Carter of Natchitoches, Louisiana; Gina (Gib) Montejano of Eldora, Iowa; one grandson, Tyler Montejano; his parents, Art and Betty Frerichs of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; one sister, Diane (Steve) Rash of Union, Iowa; his father and mother-in-law, Dale and Mary Sexton of Rockwell City, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Keith (Barb) Sexton of Rockwell City, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Marlene (Bob) Buckley of Des Moines, Iowa; Monica (Alan) Peitz of Perry, Iowa; Carol (Tim) Stevens of Fort Dodge, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.



He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Rena Frerichs, and his maternal grandparents, Albert and Helen Van Dornum.
