Dorothy A. Slater, 90, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Eldora, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Dorothy was born March 10, 1923 in Prosser, Nebraska, daughter of Fred and Mary (Frese) Uden. She attended grade school at Christ Lutheran School and she was confirmed there in 1937. She then graduated from Juniata High School.
On November 4, 1945 Dorothy was united in marriage to Allan L. Slater in rural Juniata, Nebraska at Christ Lutheran Church. For a short period of time Dorothy and Allan made their home in Norman and Minden, Nebraska. In 1949 they moved to Gladbrook, Iowa and then to State Center, Iowa for a short period. In 1955 their family moved to Eldora.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she had been involved with their ladies circle. She enjoyed quilting and needle work, and when she was still in Eldora enjoyed activities at Dorothy's Senior Center.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Sherry (Bill) Crowley of Waterloo, Douglas (Donna) Slater of Merrimac, Wisconsin; Mary (Ernest) von Kaufmann of O'Fallon, Illinois; and Randy (Joyce) Slater of Havre de Grace, Maryland; sisters-in-law, Carol Uden of Columbus, Nebraska and Dora Slater of Hastings, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Robert Struss of Kenesaw, Nebraska; and by eight grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan on September 26, 2002; sisters, Leona Oelschlager and Irene Struss; and by brothers, Lawrence, Elmer and Marvin Uden.
