Dorothy M. Palmer, 97, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center in La Porte City, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Terry Plocher officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 am to 11 am on Monday, prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Dorothy was born on May 12, 1913 in her familya�(TM)s home near Parkersburg, Iowa, daughter of Eli F. and Minnie (Koell) Hersey. She was educated in Parkersburg where she graduated with the class of 1931. Dorothy then attended Normal Training Teachera�(TM)s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she received credits to teach in rural schools. She taught for 7 years in Sinclair and Morrison, Iowa. Dorothy was employed by Grundy County working as Deputy Clerk of Court from 1948 a�" 1959 and served as Clerk of Court from 1959 a�" 1984.
On January 10, 1941 Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald E. Palmer in Grundy Center. They celebrated their 50 years of marriage in Hawaii on January 10, 1991. Donald died on October 17, 2000.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Parkersburg United Methodist Church on June 6, 1931 and on April 7, 1946 transferred her membership to the Grundy Center United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. On April 30, 2000 Dorothy was honored as a 50 year member of the Church. She was also a 60 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary #349. She was a dedicated public servant and loved serving the public. She also loved flowers and loved to share them with visitors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; sisters, Gladys, Lena, Ethel, MaryAnn, Bernice, Alice and Lucille; and brothers, Henry, Glen and Harlan. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
