Dorothy Jean Marquart, 94, of Reinbeck, Iowa died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November, 17, 2015, with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Salem Church of Lincoln in Lincoln, IA with Pastor Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial to follow at Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck, IA.
Dorothy "Jean" (Bryant) Marquart was born November 6, 1921, in Marshalltown, IA to Marian (Terrill) and A.N. "Doc" Bryant. Jean attended Montour schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1939. Jean was united in marriage to Joseph Henchal in Marshalltown, IA in 1942 and to this union were two daughters: Pam and Pene-jo. Jean resided in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area until 1973 and moved to Lincoln, IA until 2005 when she moved to Reinbeck and resided at Westview and then the Elms. Jean worked as a bookkeeper for several different businesses in Waterloo, owned the Village Inn Supper Club in Lincoln for several years and managed the State Liquor Stores in Reinbeck and Grundy Center prior to her retirement.
Jean was active with the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years. She volunteered on the Gladbrook-Reinbeck ambulance crew for over 20 years and also volunteered her time at the Iowa Veterans Home. Jean enjoyed reading, sewing, cross stitch, loved to travel and in 1997 was the Iowan of the Day at the Iowa State Fair.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and sister Joyce (Jim) Reaugh. She is survived by her loving daughters and family Pam (Dennis) Kemming of Waverly, IA and Pene-jo (Terry) Lage of Gladbrook, IA. Grandchildren Jason (Kelly) Lage of Waukee, IA; Angie (Chad) Brown of Reinbeck, IA; Victor (Ronda) Kemming of Lakeville, MN; Jon (Lisa) Kemming of Rosemount, MN and five great grandchildren.
