Dorothy Rae Harris, 89, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at her residence. Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Dave Nolte officiating. Burial will occur at a later date. Visitation will be Monday, February 13, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at French Hand Funeral Home, where the family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to the Reinbeck United Methodist Church.
Dorothy was born July 22, 1916, on a farm near Traer, Iowa, the daughter of George Wesley and Bessie B. (Boyce) Hooper. Dorothy received her education in Reinbeck, and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1933. On August 25, 1934, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert D. Harris Sr. in Reinbeck. After their marriage, they lived in Grundy Center for four years before moving to Reinbeck. Dorothy had done some seasonal work at the canning factory in Reinbeck, as well as running the corn sheller at Pioneer, and she was also a homemaker. Dorothy's husband Robert died January 20, 1985, and she continued to make Reinbeck her home.
Dorothy was a member of the Reinbeck United Methodist Church. She loved to take afternoon walks, put together jigsaw puzzles, and read. Dorothy also loved to flower garden.
She is survived by one son Robert D. Harris Jr. and his wife Helen of Reinbeck, Iowa; four grandchildren Connie Barnes and her husband Craig of Grundy Center, Iowa; Rick Harris and his wife January of Reinbeck, Iowa; Curt Harris and his wife Connie of Webster City, Iowa; Cindy Cody and her husband Tom of Little Cedar, Iowa; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; one grandson Randy Joe Harris; four brothers John, William, Luther, and George Hooper; and two sisters Virginia Stoakes and Edith Anderson.
