Dorothy Dudden, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2006, of natural causes at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Memorial may be directed to the Grundy County Hospice or the Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy was born on May 7, 1917 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the only child of Henry Jr. and Fanny (Engelkes) Dirks. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1934. Dorothy took Normal Training and taught in Holland area schools for five years. On September 14, 1939 Dorothy was united in marriage to Carl Dudden in Holland, Iowa. Dorothy and Carl had a son Donald Paul who was born in 1947. Don was killed in an airplane accident in 1975. Dorothy was a homemaker who worked part time for The Farm Bureau Spokesman for about ten years. Dorothy and Carl wintered in Florida for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, where she was active in many youth programs. Carl and Dorothy also supported many Grundy Center School programs. They enjoyed going on bus trips, which they later were asked to organize.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 2003, a son Donald Paul Dudden, and her parents.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law: LuAnn Dudden Husmann and her husband Jim of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two Godchildren: Annika and Mitchell Husman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
