Dorothea M. Nance, 93, of Eldora, Iowa died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Valley View Specialty Care in Eldora, Iowa while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, Iowa. Burial will follow at Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Dorothea Mae Banghart, daughter of Isaac and Anna Wilts Banghart was born May 8, 1923 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She received her education in Marshalltown, graduating from Marshalltown High School. On March 19, 1948, she married Dale Richard Nance at the Evangelical Brethren Church in Marshalltown. The couple farmed in the New Providence, Steamboat Rock and Alden areas. Her main vocation was as a homemaker, raising her family. Following their retirement, the couple moved to Eldora. Dorothea was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She became a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldora when they retired from farming. Dorothea was a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and caring for her family.
Survivors include her son, Dennis (Susan) Nance of Trenton, Michigan; daughters, Deborah (Robert) Lofgren of Cuenca, Ecuador, Deanna Nance of Syracuse, New York; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and her sister, Mary Lou Banghart of Ottumwa, Iowa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Nance; brother, Everett Banghart; sisters, Ruth Wright, Maxine Speas and Janice Barnhart.
Memorials may be given in memory of Dorothea, to Care Initiatives Hospice.
