Doris I. "Dorie" Sheller, 84, of rural Eldora, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, from complications of heart disease. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Ivester Church of the Brethren, rural Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Timothy Button-Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Sheller Cemetery, rural Eldora, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, April 14, 2006, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg, Iowa, and also Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. The family will be present to greet friends on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Ivester Church of the Brethren. Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Dorie was born August 19, 1921, in Melrose Township, rural Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Glen Lohr and Ruth Mae (Schwab) Sheller. She attended Melrose #2 rural country school and graduated from Whitten High School in 1939. Dorie worked at the Grundy Hemp Mill in Grundy Center, during WWII; and had been caretaker of the Sheller Cemetery and custodian of Ivester Church of the Brethren for many years. She lived on the family farm all of her life and also cared for her parents. When her mother became ill in the early 1960's, Dorie kept house for them. When her mother passed away in 1964, she continued to keep house for her father until he passed away in 1987. Dorie was a faithful, lifelong member of Ivester Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by three sisters Myrtle Morland of Pueblo, Colorado; Emma Hess of Pipestone, Minnesota; ImoJean Frantz and her husband Merlin of McPherson, Kansas; one sister-in-law Velma Sheller of Marshalltown, Iowa; fourteen nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Ruth Sheller; one brother Charles Sheller; and two nephews Marvin Morland and Paul Sheller.
