Doris Palmer

July 5, 1923 — October 4, 2010

Doris Leila Webner Palmer, 87, formerly of Holland, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook while under the care of the nursing staff and the Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010, 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. A private family burial will take place following funeral services.


Doris was born July 5, 1923 in Klemme, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Alice (Quick) Webner.


She married Willard G. Palmer on September 26, 1942 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.


Willard and Doris lived in Clear Lake, Iowa and later made their home in Holland, Iowa.


Doris enjoyed making Sunday dinners for her family, and having morning coffee with her neighbors. She especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and neighbors.


Doris is survived by her seven children: Dot Mathews of Grundy Center, IA, Bev (Homer) White of Fort Worth, TX, Daniel Palmer of Guthrie, OK, Donnie (Marcia) Palmer of Reinbeck, IA, Gloria (Kevin) Kuester of Grundy Center, IA, January Fairbanks of Marshalltown, IA and Linda (Mark) DeLange of Grundy Center, IA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Jeff & Kelly Mathews and Alyssa, Kayla and Sydney; Amy Doiel and Tasha; Kim & Brett Lewis; Kevin Smith; Vasile and Jana White and Delayne, Kaiden, Conner and Colton; Robert & Jena Engelkes and Ryan and Mitchell; Nathan & Kelly Engelkes and Daxton & Tatem; Danielle Palmer; Jordan & Sammi Palmer; Wes and Sue Beenken and Alli & Reid; Matt & Amy Kuester and Madison, Travis and Jacque; Jason “Butch” & Sandy Kuester and Makenly; Bryan Newton and friend Chris; Brandon Newton and friend Megan and Autumn and Avery; Mike & Nicole Taylor and Ryken; Nathan & Apryl DeLange and Mason, Jacob and Anna; Holly DeLange and Anessa; one sister Etta Lou Bier of Garner, IA; sister-in-law Amy Webner of Mason City; many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard; three brothers Ted, Don and Herb Webner; two sisters Estella Kinsella and Syble Schlawin; 2 grandsons Dustin Palmer and Kory Palmer and two granddaughters Jennifer Mathews and Amanda Kuester.
