Doris Ann Luiken, age 62 of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Burial of the cremated remains will follow the memorial service at Steamboat Rock Cemetery.
Doris was born on November 12, 1951 in Eldora, Iowa to her parents Charles and Evelyn (Lawrence) Luiken. She was raised in Steamboat Rock and graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in the Class of 1970. Doris earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She then worked in Australia for a short time. Upon her return to Iowa, she earned her nursing degree in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Doris worked as a nurse at Younkers Rehab at the Iowa Methodist Hospital and later at a Des Moines nursing home.
Doris is survived by a sister Lois Luiken of Steamboat Rock, IA; a brother Larry (Marlene) Luiken of Chatfield, MN; a nephew Matthew Luiken and a niece Dana (Brent) Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
