Donna L. Arends, 79, of Beaman, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad after a two year battle with cancer. Once diagnosed she never complained and maintained a brave and cheerful outlook. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, March 25 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 26, at the Beaman United Methodist Church in Beaman with Pastor Gene Kubli officiating. Donna was born January 21, 1935 near Grinnell, Iowa, one of seven children raised by the late Perry and Helen Miller.
She married her loving husband Leland (Lee) Arends on February 23, 1955 in Beaman, Iowa where they made their home together on their family farm. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage and two children, Cheryl and Roger.
Donna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around caring for her family and working on the farm. She was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service.
She is survived by her husband, Leland, and her children and their spouses: Cheryl (Steve), Urbandale, Iowa, Roger (Janet), Conrad, Iowa and 4 loving grandchildren: Jacob Strohman, Chicago, IL and Jill, Jenna & Jason Arends (Conrad); as well as brothers Marion (Bev) Miller and Marvin (Sharon) Miller; sister, Janice Miller; sister-in-law, Barbara Miller; brother-in-law, Don Hasselman; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Perry & Helen Miller; and siblings, Max Miller, Joan Koch and Marilyn Hasselman; and brother-in-law, Leroy Koch.
Donna was born January 21, 1935 near Grinnell, Iowa, one of seven children raised by the late Perry and Helen Miller.
