Donald Rosine

October 6, 1921 — October 4, 2004

Donald "Shorty" Rosine, 82, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Monday, October 04, 2004 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 7, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery with military honors by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless 3974 of the V.F.W. Visitation is from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.



Don was born October 6, 1921, in rural Eldora, son of Otto Herman and Minnie Anna (Jass) Rosine. He graduated from Eldora High School in 1941 then served with the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942 - 1946. On September 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Marzell Lindsey in Alexandria, Louisiana where he was stationed. Don lived in Eldora his entire life other than when he was in Alexandria during his military service and for two years in 1953 - 1955 when he was also living in Alexandria. He worked as service manager for Wood Auto until 1963 then worked for Eldora High School as the head custodian.



He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Walter-Sayer Post #182 of the American Legion where he was a past commander, served on the board of Dorothy's Senior Center, and enjoyed helping with the Pine Lake Wildlife Club fish fries. After retirement in 1986 he enjoyed saw sharpening in his spare time.



Surviving Don are his children, Rita (Lonnie) Balvanz of Eldora, Anita (Allan) Eggleston of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Donald George Rosine Jr. of Eldora; sister, Doris (Merlyn) Kallem of Eldora; brother, Art (Wanda) Rosine of Webster City; and by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn on March 16, 2002; his parents; sister, Betty Owings; and brothers, Richard and Robert.
