Donald Wayne Brown, 78, of Reinbeck, died on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, on Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Gabriel Catholic, rural Reinbeck, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be on Thursday, March 13 from 4pm to 7pm at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with Scriptures Services beginning at 7pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family and a memorial fund is being established.
Donald was born February 13, 1936, in Reinbeck, Iowa, son of Wayne and Velma (Juhl) Brown. He graduated from Reinbeck High School with the class of 1953 then served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.
On August 17, 1965 Donald was united in marriage to Janet Folkerts at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. To this union were born children, Wena, Paula and Chad. Donald was employed by Pioneer Hi-Bred for over 40 years retiring in 1998.
He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Oak Leaf Country Club and the Experimental Aircraft Association. Donald enjoyed, golf, auto racing, gun shows, and attending aircraft shows in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Wena Johnston and her husband Jeff of Reinbeck, Paula Rhoades and her husband Shanon of Reinbeck, and Chad Brown and his wife Angie of Reinbeck; sister Jeanne (Eldie) Hoeppner of Reinbeck; brother, Bill Brown of Reinbeck; grand-children, Haley, Sean, Shalyn, Shye, Sydney, Haydon and Walker; and great-grandchildren, Rylee and Jade. Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
