Donald E. Boren, 70, of Grundy Center, died from natural causes on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under the care of Iowa Hospice.
Donny was born September 24, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Emery and Mabel (Hockey) Boren. He was raised and educated in Grundy Center graduating from the Grundy Center High School in 1956. On December 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to Donna Kay Schultz in Ackley, Iowa. Don worked at John Deere and also drove semi for several different people. He retired in 1996. Don was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. He was a long time high school baseball umpire and men?s fast pitch softball. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He played fast pitch softball for the Holland Team, he also volunteered at the Grundy Center Community Building for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; four sons, David Boren of Columbia, Missouri, Danny Boren of Columbia, South Carolina, Dean and wife January Boren of Ackley, Iowa, and Dale and wife Kim Boren of Grundy Center, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; a brother Harry and wife Jean Boren of Iowa City, Iowa; 3 sisters, Wanita and husband Dean Button of Marshalltown, Iowa, Pricilla and husband Dean Frier of Washington, Iowa, and Rose Jaquis of Wellman, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vance Boren, sister, Marjorie DeLange, a brother, Bob Boren and a sister, Darlene Kruger.
