Diane was born on June 7, 1939, on the family farm south of Lincoln, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Bernice (Lage) Wrage. She graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1957 and went on to graduate from Simpson College in 1961, where she majored in home economics/fashion design.

She and Wayne retired to Grundy Center in 2017, where she was a member of First Baptist Church.
