Dennis P. Orton, 73, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 27, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Eldora, Iowa, with Pastor Dean Button officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 26, 2006, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with the family present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established.
Dennis Paul Orton was born September 30, 1933, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Clark and Myrna (Minkler) Orton. He was raised and educated in Algona, and graduated from Algona High School. On July 5, 1957, Dennis was united in marriage to Theresa Jacques in Carter Lake, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in several towns throughout northwest Iowa. During this time, Dennis worked as a farmhand for several farmers. In 1968, the family moved to Hardin County, and Dennis became employed as a truck driver. Of the twenty five years that he drove semi, twenty of those years were spent working for Decker Truck Line from Fort Dodge, Iowa. Dennis retired in 1998. Dennis was a member of First Baptist Church in Eldora. Dennis enjoyed researching family genealogy, and also the time he spent with his Ham Radio.
He is survived by his wife Theresa Orton of Eldora, Iowa; daughter Elaine Nederhoff and her husband Ron of Earlham, Iowa; son Paul Orton of New Providence, Iowa; son Manuel Orton and January of Eldora, Iowa; daughter Patty Sells and her husband Don of Waverly, Iowa; and daughter Anita Orton of Grimes, Iowa; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four brothers Don Orton of Jacksonville, Florida; Arden Orton and his wife Melinda of the Philippines; Webster Orton and his wife Darline of Algona, Iowa; Knute Orton and his wife Lillian of Sebring, Florida; one brother-in-law Wilson Abernathy of Mason City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Myrna Orton and one sister Bulie Abernathy.
