Dennis E. Martin, 64, of Eldora, Iowa died from natural causes on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with a service of remembrance starting at 7 pm. Memorials may be directed to Dennis' family. Dennis was born on June 15, 1946 to George and Betty Martin. Dennis grew up north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Richland High School. Dennis attended Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio prior to enlisting in the United States Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1969, Dennis earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974 and obtained his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Grand Valley State College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1981. His interest in learning continued throughout his lifetime as he was in the process of completing an Associates Degree in Real Estate from the University of Northern Iowa at the time of his passing.
Dennis was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He worked with a number of major corporations in Pennsylvania and Michigan prior to moving to Iowa in the late 1980s to work with Dodger Industries and retired from Dodger in 2009. Since moving to Iowa, Dennis developed an interest in real estate and purchased multiple residential properties in the Eldora area. He and his wife, Shirley, were actively involved in the management and maintenance of these properties.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; mother, Betty Martin of Eldora; daughter, Lynda Hodge of Charleston, South Carolina; step-sons, Scott Ferriss of Eldora, Jim (Dori) Ferriss of Pearl City, Hawaii and Randy (Margaret) Ferriss of Nevada, Iowa; brothers, George (Dolly) Martin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Reverend Kenneth (Martha) Martin of Locust Grove, Virginia, Jeffery (Barbara) Martin of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania and Mark (Kelli) Martin of Winter Park, Florida; and by 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dennis was preceded in death by his father.
