Dennis Hook, 74, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away of natural causes, on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Colfax Presbyterian Church, Holland Iowa, with Pastor Larry Hoop officiating. Burial will follow at the Colfax Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. a�" 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Dennis Eugene Hook was born May 1, 1936, in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Fritz and Effie (Meyer) Hook. He was raised in Grundy County attended Colfax No.5 Rural School and graduated from Grundy Center High School. On October 24, 1956, in Grundy Center, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Itzen at The American Lutheran Church. After their marriage they moved to Des Moines in 1956 where Dennis went to TV school, and then moved to Waterloo in 1957 and Dennis worked for Dictaphone Co. The couple made their home near Dike, Lincoln Township in 1960, where Dennis engaged in farming. In 1971, they moved to the home place near Holland where they farmed until moving to Grundy Center in 1994, where they made their home. Dennis was a member of the Colfax Presbyterian Church, where he served as a church trustee, Elder, Promise Keepers, youth sponsor, usher, Christian Ed, and sang in the church choir. Dennis enjoyed attending the kid's activities in school and their baseball, basketball, football and soccer games. Dennis loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Hook of Grundy Center, children: Brenda DeBoer and her husband Terry of Hampton, Iowa, Bryon Hook and his wife Lori of Holland, Iowa , Julaine Bidleman and her husband Brian of Fort Dodge, Iowa; 7grandchildren: Jared (Melissa) and Kyle DeBoer, Brent (Megan), Trevor and Brady Hook, Rayni and Cayci Bidleman; one great grandchild, Aiden Hook; one sister, Shirley Huesman of Colorado; a sister-in-law Minetta Tjepkes and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Arnold Tjepkes and LeRoy Huesman.
