Delroy L. Kruger, 53, of Grundy Center, died at his home on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, following a lengthy battle with cancer, while under the care of his family and Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday, September 29, 2008 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation is from 4 pm to 7 pm on Sunday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Delroy was born January 14, 1955, in Grundy Center, Iowa, son of George F. and Grace (Muller) Kruger. He was raised on the family farm near Fern, Iowa and graduated from Dike High School in 1973 then attended Hawkeye Tech for a year. On February 23, 1974 Delroy was united in marriage to Diana L. Abbas at Fredsville Lutheran Church near Cedar Falls, and they made their home in Grundy Center. He worked for Phelps Implement in Grundy Center for many years but most recently as an electrical meter technician for Chapman Metering of Avoca, Iowa, before becoming disabled from his illness. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Grundy Center and Town and Country Golf Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing football with his grandson, Austin.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Staci Kruger of Grundy Center; son, Steve (Rachel) Kruger of Waterloo; brothers, Rodger (Marlene) Kruger of Cedar Falls and Delmar (Julie) Kruger of Parkersburg; grandson, Austin; mother-in-law, Sharon Abbas of Grundy Center; sisters-in-law, Gloria Kruger of Grundy Center, Cindy (Jay) Huberg of New Hartford, Shawna (Robert) Jones of Grundy Center, and Dalette (Steve) Habenicht of Bettendorf; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland; and sister Janola.
