David C. Teater, 83, of New Providence, Iowa died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Valley View Specialty Care in Eldora, Iowa while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. A visitation for Dave will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Creps-Abels Funeral home in Eldora, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence, Iowa. Burial will follow the service at Honey Creek Cemetery in rural New Providence with graveside military rites accorded by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W. Roll-Harless #3974 of Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the family for a charity of their choosing.
David Charles Teater, son of Lester and Anna (Ferda) Teater was born on August 12, 1934 in Adena, Ohio. He received his education from the Adena Public Schools. Following his education, Dave honorably served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1961. On October 21, 1971 Dave was united in marriage to Zora Kay Barnes at the United Methodist Church in Alden, Iowa. The couple resided in Eldora for one year before making their home in New Providence. In 1993, Dave started working at the Iowa State Training School in Eldora until retiring in September of 1998. Before that he had worked at Mid Equipment in Grundy Center, Lawn Hill Coop in New Providence, and the Iowa Falls Times Citizen. He was a long time member of the American legion Post #182 of Eldora. Dave enjoyed collecting piggy banks. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was a very giving person.
Survivors include his loving wife Zora of New Providence; sons, Michael (Elizabeth) Murphy also of New Providence, Mark (Cindy) Bowman of Shelbina, MO; daughter, Shellie Murphy of Des Moines; grandchildren, Joe, Ryan, Matthew, David, Jessica, Zech, Jordan, Melissa and Samantha; many great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Ferstel of Friendswood, TX; brother, Robert Teater of League City, TX; half-sister, Verna Ruckman and half-brother, Art Ruckman both of Ohio; sister-in-law, Sandy Teater of Dillonville, TX; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Teater and brother-in-law, Robert Ferstel.
