David W. Oelschlager, 33, of Lincoln, Iowa, died Saturday, September 16, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
David Wayne Oelschlager was born August 27, 1973, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Gary Lee and Alice Marie (Ihns) Oelschlager. David was raised in rural Reinbeck, and attended both elementary school and high school. During high school, David participated in wrestling, and football, lettering in both sports. He was also active in the FFA, farrowing pigs, and farming with his dad and brother. David graduated in 1992 from the Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School, and then attended Iowa State University in Ames for a year. David then moved back to Lincoln, Iowa, where he began working at Iowa Builders in Gladbrook, and also farmed. He was a member of both the Lincoln Fire Department as well as the Gladbrook Fire Department. David served as a training officer on the Lincoln Department, and was the Assistant Fire Chief in Gladbrook. In June 2002, David met Sherrie Jacobs, and they became inseparable. They were united in marriage June 25, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Reinbeck, and made their home in Lincoln. David had been a baptized and confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Reinbeck, and then became a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Gladbrook, when he and Sherrie were married. David was devoted to his family and his friends. He loved being a father and uncle and enjoyed taking his family camping and fishing to area lakes and parks. David was an excellent cook and loved grilling. He was a friend to all and never judged anyone. David was always willing to help and he spent much of his time serving his family and his community.
He is survived by his wife Sherrie Oelschlager of Lincoln, Iowa; two step-daughters Jennifer and Jessica Jacobs of Lincoln, Iowa; and one stepson Matt Jacobs of Lincoln; his parents Gary and Alice Oelschlager of Reinbeck, Iowa; his mother-in-law Donna Broach of Zephyr Hills, Florida; one brother Bruce Oelschlager and his wife Dawn of Gladbrook, Iowa; one sister Wendy Meester and her husband Jason of Holland, Iowa; his grandmother Leona Oelschlager of Reinbeck, Iowa; his grandparents Melvin and Phyllis Ihns of Lincoln, Iowa; and his grandmother Bertha LeMaster of Lutz, Florida; three nieces Shelby & Megan Oelschlager of Gladbrook, Iowa; and Shannon Meester of Holland, Iowa; and one nephew Jacob Meester of Holland, Iowa; and many other nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law Fred McCue and his wife Cheryl of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and one sister-in-law Tammy Hunsberger of Tampa, Florida. He was preceded in death by his grandfather LaVern Oelschlager; and his father-in-law William E Broach.
