David Granzow

February 5, 1940 — January 23, 2013

David L. Granzow, 72, of Eldora, died of acute myeloma leukemia on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Visitation is from 4 pm to 7 pm on Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Monday, January 28, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post #182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless #3974 of the V.F. W. David was born February 5, 1940 in Eldora, son of Carl and Louise (Steinfeldt) Granzow. He was educated in Norwood country school, Owasa, and Eldora, graduating from Eldora High School in 1958. David then attended Ellsworth Community College for two years. David was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Viet Nam Conflict from 1962 – 1964. On October 24, 1964 David was united in marriage to Polly Ann Crosley at the Eldora United Methodist Church. Together they farmed and raised three children Jill, Kay and Lance at their home west of Eldora.

David loved his wife and his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Walter-Sayer Post #182 of the American Legion and the Eldora Lion's Club. David enjoyed sports and raising livestock, especially cattle.

He is survived by his wife, Polly; daughters, Jill (Mervin) Vierkandt of Alden, Kay (Mike) Ryan of Eldora and son, Lance (Jaime) Granzow of Hubbard; sisters, Carla (Elroy) Nelson of Branson, Missouri and Barbara (Jerry) Short of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; grandchildren, Morgan, Delaney, Gabrielle and Brodey Vierkandt, Crosley and Lexi Ryan, and Cooper and Hayden Granzow; step-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Taylor and Parker Hess; mother-in-law, Winnifred Crosley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Denny Granzow; and his father-in-law, Beecher Crosley.
