Daryl Dean Meyer, 59, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Monday, May 19, 2008, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Daryl was born February 24, 1949 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of James and Esther (Peters) Meyer. Daryl passed away after courageously battling a long illness on May 19, 2008. He was educated in the Grundy Center School System and graduated in 1967. Daryl retired in 2004 from Fisher Controls in Marshalltown where he had been employed since 1969.
Daryl was happily married to Cindy (Cornelius) Meyer. During his retired life, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to many beautiful places including, Hawaii, Florida, and many south eastern states. Daryl enjoyed coaching Cindy on the many special projects that he would start and they would finish. He had many special memories working on a racing pit crew for Duane Van Deest for many years and then moving on to supporting his son Steve's racing hobby, helping, watching and trouble shooting mechanical problems. He viewed NASCAR races every weekend and took pleasure in discussing his opinions about the drivers with his mother. Daryl enjoyed spending time with his family, home cooked food as well as special dogs; Annie, Josie and Wrigley. Daryl also enjoyed farming, restoring his tractors, International H and 450 and going on tractor rides.
Daryl was most proud of the newest addition to his family, grandson Britt Meyer and anticipating his baby granddaughter due in July.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; mother, Esther; children; Steve, Hope and Britt Meyer all of Grundy Center; Sarah Meyer of Denver, Co: Kyle and Kari Lindaman of Waterloo; Brandon Oldfather in the Military and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
