Darlyn Eimers

November 27, 1927 — February 16, 2012

Darlyn Eimers, 84, of Dike, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20th, 10:30 A.M. at the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls. Burial will follow funeral services at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19th from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home Dike Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.

Darlyn was born November 27, 1927 in Gilbertville, Iowa, daughter of Peter and Minnie Niedert Schommer. She married Jerry Eimers in 1949 in Burt, Iowa. Darlyn graduated from Jesup High School in 1945 and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College and Upper Iowa University. Her first teaching job was in a one-room school house and she later taught in town schools at Brandon and Onslow. After having children, she became a home-maker. As her seven children grew, she was also able to provide in-home daycare to several families in Greene and Dike. She was an active member of Fredsville Lutheran Church of Dike and belonged to the quilting circle, lunch committee, women's bible circle and was a Sunday and Bible school teacher. One of her greatest joys was traveling with Jerry to visit her children and grandchildren and being able to support their many accomplishments.

Darlyn is survived by her husband, Jerry, sons Dan (Carol) of San Diego, CA, Dave of Greene, IA, Mardy (Lisa) of Columbia, MO, Jeff (Colleen) of Shorewood, WI, and Wendell (April) of Peosta, IA, daughter Jennifer (Kevin) Cartee of Peosta, IA, sister Dorothy of Jesup, IA, brother Dean of Lamont, IA, 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Duane, and a son, Larry.
