February 22, 1924 — November 9, 2012

Dale Lawrence Meeker, 88, of Eldora, passed away on Friday, November 09, 2012 at the Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 13th at 10:30 A.M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 12th from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Inurnment will follow memorial services at Roughwoods Cemetery in Eldora with military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Walter –Sayer Post # 182 in Eldora. Son of Herbert & Jessie (Baker) Meeker, Dale was born on February 22, 1924. He graduated from Hubbard High School 1941. On December 26, 1944, Dale married Frances Ziesman and began farming on the Ziesman farm which later became an Iowa Century Farm. Together they raised four children. They frequently spent Saturday nights dancing with a group of friends in Janesville or at the Surf Ballroom.
For many years, Dale was a member of the Point Pleasant Church in Pleasant Township. When the church closed and became a residence his membership transferred to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora.

Dale liked paint horses, Allis Chalmers tractors and dairy cows. His life circled around farming and cattle. He and son David owned and operated a custom hay bailing business for many years. Following retirement from farming, Dale worked at the Pine Lake Lumber Company in Eldora.

Dale was a patriot. He was stationed in Japan with the U.S. Army Nagana Military Government team as military police from 1945 – 1946. He was an active member of the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182 in Eldora, serving as Commander from .

Dale is survived by his wife of 68 years, Fran; children Connie (Larry) Craig of Hannibal, MO, Linda (Tom) Catlin of Eldora, Robert (Tami) of Valley Springs, SD & David (Val) of Eldora; 12 grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren; brother Willard Meeker of Eldora. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lee of Hubbard; grandson Jacob Meeker of Valley Springs, SD.
