Cynthia M. Hoekstra, 60, of Eldora, passed away on Wednesday, April 6th, 2011 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 am Saturday, April 9th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora with Father Paul Baldwin celebrating. Burial will follow in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with a 6 pm Rosary service. Cynthia was born July 29, 1950 in St. Mary's, Iowa, daughter of Donald and Barbara (Watson) Gavin. She graduated from Martensdale St. Mary's High School in 1968 and later went on to attend Ellsworth College. On August 16, 1969 Cynthia was united in marriage to Timothy Hoekstra in St. Mary's, Iowa. She has worked for Hardin County Community Services for the past several years and has thoroughly enjoyed serving the public. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are her sons, Jason Hoekstra and his wife Joanna of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and Jonathon Hoekstra and his wife Amy of Owasso, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; her father Don (JoAnne) Gavin of St. Mary's, Iowa; sisters, Rebecca (Joe) Goodman and Donna (Mike) McElwee all of St. Mary's; brothers, Ray (Sheri) Gavin of St. Mary's and Les (Brenda) Gavin of rural Indianola, Iowa; and by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy on February 27, 2009, and by her mother, Barbara Gavin.
