Curtis L. Meester, 68, of Grundy Center, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 4th at 10:30 A.M. at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow the service at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 3rd from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Curt was born on October 11, 1945 in Eldora, Iowa, to his parents Henry F. & Viola M. (Veenker) Meester. He was raised in rural Wellsburg and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1963. Curt was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Werkman on May 9, 1970 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together they welcomed two daughters into their family.
He worked as a truck driver for the Grundy County Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 2010. Upon retirement, Curt enjoyed trips to the farmer's market to purchase and share produce with friends and family. He enjoyed cooking for small gatherings, but his true joy in life came from spending time with friends and family, especially his grandkids.
Curt is survived by his wife Marjorie of Grundy Center; daughters Staci (Jon) Freese of Grundy Center & Sue (Wes) Beenken of Grundy Center; grandchildren Kiley Meyers of Des Moines, Samantha Meyers of Grundy Center and Allison & Reid Beenken of Grundy Center; three sisters Karen (Lee) Dietrich of Lake Villa, IL, Elaine Epstein of Overland Park, KS & Diane (Merle) Bakker of Grundy Center and sister-in-law Lois Meester of Grundy Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Sylvian Meester.
