Cora Ruth Koch, 94, of Eldora, Iowa, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 27, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Eldora, with Pastor Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with the family present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established.
Cora Ruth was born May 17, 1911, in Marshall County, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Lena (Koehler) Thomas. Ruth graduated from Liscomb High School in 1929. On October 25, 1932, Ruth was united in marriage to John Koch in Kansas City, Kansas. Together they lived and farmed in Grundy County, Iowa, for forty-two years. In later years, they spent their winters in Largo, Florida, and Ruth worked for Hood Juice Company in Largo, from 1969 to 1980. They moved back to Eldora in 1980, making it their permanent residence. On July 31, 1996, Ruth's husband John died. Ruth continued making Eldora her home.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eldora. She was a wonderful cook and loved to eat ice cream. Over the years, Ruth crocheted many afghans for her family members. She also loved to flower garden, raising beautiful plants both on their farm and at her home in Eldora.
She is survived by her daughter Beverly Hogle of Eldora, Iowa; her son Duane Koch of Toledo, Iowa; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Koch; one son-in-law Keith Hogle; one daughter-in-law Lorraine Koch; and one brother Clarence Thomas.
