Constance Geerdes

November 11, 1927 — January 13, 2007

Constance "Connie" Geerdes, 79, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 17, at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center with Msgr. Paul Steimel officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 pm at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with Scriptural Wake Services at 4:30 pm. Memorials may be directed to Connie's family.



Connie was born November 11, 1927 in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of Dewey B. and Gaynelle M. (Kurtz) Jacobson. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Marshalltown where she graduated from high school and served as their homecoming queen. After high school Connie worked at Dunn and Bradstreet in South Bend, Indiana. On July 22, 1950 she was united in marriage to George Hillard Geerdes in Hampton, Iowa. They made their home in Wellsburg until moving to Grundy Center in 1960. She worked as a type-setter for the Spokesman Press and then as a secretary for Grundy Mutual Insurance. Connie's many interests included, reading, flower gardening, cooking (especially potato dumplings), and golfing and bowling in younger years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.



Surviving is her son, Brad Tyrrell (Linda Coffman) of Hubbard, Iowa; sons, Mark and Gary Geerdes of Wellsburg; daughter, Gaye Muller of Grundy Center; daughter, Lynn Geerdes-Lugo (Ricardo) of Chicago, Illinois; brother Bob Jacobson (Charlene) of Marshalltown; sister, Mary Deeter of Kellogg, Iowa; and by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on March 16, 2002; infant twin sons, George and Clare; and son, Hank Geerdes.
