Connie Lucinda Spieker, 73, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, Engelkes Chapel in Grundy Center. The inurnment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center following the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to the family PO Box 516 Holland, Iowa 50642.
Connie was born on July 15, 1951, in Leon, Iowa, to her parents Ora and Mary (Cummins) Shackleton. She graduated from Manly High School in the class of 1970. After graduation Connie enlisted in the United States Army. She proudly served and was honorably discharged. She then moved to the family farm in Spring Valley, Minnesota, and there she was united in marriage to her husband Allen Spieker on July 23, 1982. The couple welcomed two sets of twins into their family.
Allen and Connie owned and operated the Thompson Café in Thompson, Iowa for several years. The family then moved to Ostrander, Minnesota where Connie worked as a nurse. They then made their home in Grundy Center in 1995; and Connie worked at various companies in Grundy Center and retired from Richelieu.
Connie loved to cross-stitch. She was exceptionally talented and enjoyed making baby blankets and Christmas stockings for family and friends. Connie enjoyed word puzzles, jig-saw puzzles and building Legos. She liked to bowl and watch cop shows, soap operas and Jeopardy. She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley. Connie’s true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was immensely proud of her title of “Grammy” given to her by the grandkids.
Left to cherish Connie’s memory are her children Ora Spieker, Melinda Spieker, Darcy (Chet) Rhoads, and Darwin (Diana) Spieker; step-son Cory (Amy) Spieker; grandchildren Michael Barkhoff, Carson and Raelynn Rhoads, Michael, John, Audrey, Sydney, and Rex Spieker; sisters Barb Curtis, Cindy Nightingale, and Mandy Miner; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allen; and sister Inez “Rustie” Tesch.
