Clarence T. Lange, 98, of the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls, formerly of Eldora, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018, while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 1st at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the family. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com
Clarence was born on May 23, 1920, at the farm home of his parents in rural Buckeye, Iowa. He was the son of Charles John “Charlie” & Emma Pauline (Steinfeldt) Lange. Clarence attended country school a short distance from his home, where he attended until the 8th grade.
He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buckeye. He later became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora.
Clarence honorably served his country during WWII, with the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. On April 15, 1950, Clarence was united in marriage to Evelyn Kosanke at the Salem Evangelical Church in Hubbard, IA. To this union, 2 daughters were born.
Clarence farmed and raised registered Brown Swiss Cattle. He served as Director on the Hardin County REC and Corn Belt Power, Lawn Hill & Owasa Coop boards, was a 4-H leader for the Pleasant Pluggers for 20 years and was also part of ASCS for 20 years. In addition, he served on the board of Dorothy’s Senior Center and was a health care advocate for Eldora & Hubbard Nursing Homes. He and his wife Evelyn served as cemetery sextons for the Roughwoods Cemetery in rural Eldora, Iowa for many years.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, where he served as head usher and was also a member of the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post #182 and V.F.W. Roll-Harless #3974.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn of Iowa Falls; 2 daughters Sheila (Roger) Granner of Hubbard and Barbara (Dave) Raska of Radcliffe; 4 grandchildren Lindsay (Jon) Lancaster, Megan (Kevin) Warburton, Jordan (Lindsay) Below and Logan Below; 5 great-grandchildren Avrie & Kilee Warburton, Brady & Jake Lancaster and Bennett Below; sister Lavonne Anderson of Eldora and numerous nieces, nephews and friends; 6 step-grandchildren Jim Raska, Ron (Mechelle) Raska, Tim (Renee) Raska, Diana Raska, Chuck (Sarah) Raska & Allen Raska; many step- great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Esther and brother Herman.
Clarence was very proud of his family, his community and his service to his country. May God Bless Clarence, and all those who have gone before him.
