Our beloved father and grandfather, Charles (Doug) Morgan, age 73, passed away surrounded by family  at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo, Iowa, on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 after a lengthy and heroic battle with Myelodysplastics Syndrome (MDS).

Born November 28, 1943 in Washington D.C. to Charles and Gladys Arlene (Mic) Morgan. Doug graduated from Sumner high school in Sumner, Iowa.  He attended and played golf at the University of Iowa.  On May 17, 1965, Doug was united in marriage to Connie Weber at the United Methodist Church in Preston, Minnesota.

The majority of Doug’s life was spent working and raising a family in Dike, IA.  He taught his 4 sons the arts of catching fish, golf, hard work and how to grade coins.  Throughout his career, he was the owner/operator of Mid-West Turkey Hatchery, Plant Manager & Chairman of the Board for Iowa Turkey Products and served a term as President of the Iowa Turkey Federation.  Doug had been a resident of Dike, Postville & Sumner, IA.   In retirement, he and Connie enjoyed their winter home in Cortez, FL.  He cherished his grandchildren, the family ski trips to Colorado, expeditions to Yellowstone, & summers in Okoboji. Doug was a proud member of the Dike United Methodist Church.

Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie; four sons, Charles Jeffery of Iowa City; Jim of Dike; Joel (Jessica) of Montesano, WA; Jason (Becky) of Springville.  Adoptive father and uncle, Howard McMinimee of Denison.  Grandchildren; Sean Morgan, Brooke Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Amelia Morgan, Nic Morgan, Charles Wim Morgan, Seth Morgan, Samuel Morgan. Brother in Law, Laverne Buhr of Sumner; Niece Tara Buhr of Prescott, Arizona; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sister Deb, and nephew Michael.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Dike United Methodist Church in Dike, Iowa with his spiritual advisor and friend, Pastor Dan Ridnouer officiating.  A visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dike United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held  at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Oakland Cemetery in Denison, Iowa  Engelkes-Abels Dike Chapel is caring for Doug and his family.  Online condolences may be made to the Morgan family at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com
