Charles "Bud" Mooty, Jr., 86 of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, IA with Pastor John Butler officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Bud was born on his family farm in Washington Township in Grundy Center on January 14, 1924 to his parents Charles and Emma (Cummings) Mooty; and lived there his whole life. Bud attended Country School Washington # 7 and Grundy High School.
Bud was united in marriage to his wife Helene Dolores Kline on October 19, 1946 at the Alice Church of God in rural Conrad, Iowa. Together they welcomed three children into their family. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.
Bud was well known for his love of ponies and Belgian horses. He enjoyed driving his teams in parades and giving rides to family and friends. He was the Iowa Horse Plowing Champion at Living History Farms in 1980 and 1981.
Bud is survived by his wife Helene; children Margaret (Dennis) Stahl, Elizabeth (James) Traeger and Charles (Pam) Mooty; grandchildren Dan (Andrea) Traeger, Levi Traeger, Rachel Mooty and Mitchell Mooty; great-grandchildren Ryan and Madison Traeger; sisters Marjorie (Floyd) Pearson and Evelyn Copeman. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Alice Lovell, Lois Mooty and Marlys Mooty in infancy.
