Charles "Charlie" Klatt, born on April 14, 1947, in Greeley, Iowa, passed away peacefully at the Mayo Clinic on March 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Charlie is remembered fondly by his family and friends as a warm-hearted man who dedicated himself to helping others and embraced life with a joyful spirit.
Throughout his career, Charlie worked numerous jobs before finding his calling at PCI Construction, where he devoted 40 years of service. His hands-on approach to work extended beyond his profession as he enjoyed various hobbies, including painting by numbers and diamond dots, working on cars, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and reveling in the beauty of nature. Charlie had a special talent for offering the best hugs, which were often accompanied by thoughtful gestures, such as handing out cookies and hard candies.
Charlie was a devoted family man. He was first married to Shela Thein, with whom he welcomed three daughters: Kathy (James) Yates, Janet (Dennis) Klatt/Nuss, and Ronda (Craig) Strief. After their divorce, Charlie found love again with his wife Carolyn, with whom he shared his life for many years. They were united in marriage on July 29, 1973. Together, they raised two sons, Ricky (Barb) Klatt and Danny (Jody Felderman) Klatt. The family made Reinbeck their home for four decades, creating lasting memories in the community.
Charlie's legacy lives on through his five children and his love for family, which extended to 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Arlene) Klatt, his sisters Sherrie (Dean) Cretsinger and Melva (Wayne) Barrett, and his brother-in-law Blair Adams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Shala Adams, a son-in-law Dennis Puffett, two half-brothers, Marvin (Bernidett) Klatt and Ralph Klatt, a half-sister Maxine Dunsmore and a niece Roselyn (Berrett) Hassall.
Visitation for Charlie will be held on March 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Abels Funeral & Cremation Service-French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. A funeral service will take place the following day, March 14, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Reinbeck Community Church, followed by a time of remembrance and reflection of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Charlie Klatt's giving nature and kind spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
