Carroll H. Haren, 88, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died April 25, 2015, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Following Cremation, memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Private Family burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Grundy Center or to the family.
Carroll Hugh Haren was born July 13, 1926, in rural Grundy County, Iowa, son of Claus and Reka (Arends) Haren. He attended school in Grundy Center. On August 23, 1944 Carroll was united in marriage to Darleen Ralston in Waterloo, Iowa. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. Carroll and Darleen made their home in Palermo Township where they farmed until retiring to Grundy Center in 1991.
He was a member of the Grundy Center United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Grundy Center American Legion Post #349, AMVETS Post 17, in this he was a member of the Color Guard, and a member of Town and Country Golf Club. His hobbies included dancing, hunting, golfing, fishing, bowling, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and he especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Wendy (Lee) Tack of Johnston, Terry (Nancy) Haren, Becky (Duane) Nederhoff , and Nancy (Rich) Wallen all of Grundy Center; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Meyer of Webster City; sisters-in-law, Margie Reynolds and Donna Ralston of Grundy Center, and Cheryl Berger of Vinton; brother-in-law, Marvin (Rosie) Ralston of Grundy Center.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Darleen in 2010; brothers Melvin Haren and Erwin "Bud" Haren; sister, Muriel "Bunny" McMartin; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Haren, Shirly Haren and Susan Cosford; brothers-in-law, Hap Ehlers, Frank McMartin, John Meyer, Leonard Ralston, Kay Reynolds, Richard Shaw, Robert Berger, and Barry Cosford.
