Carol Jo Kelley, age 66, of Dike, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Dike United Methodist Church in Dike, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Dike Chapel, in Dike. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Carol was born on January 21, 1946 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Cornelius and Wanda Fischer. She graduated from Dike High School with the Class of 1964. Carol was united in marriage to Kurt E. Kelley on December 29, 1963 in her parent's home in Dike. Together they welcomed 5 children into their family.
In the late 1980's Carol graduated from Hawkeye Community College with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Carol worked as a nurse at the Western Home in Cedar Falls for 10 years. She then went to work as a Community Trainer for Goodwill Industries until her retirement in November of 2011.
Carol was an avid bird watcher; she loved flowers and riding her bicycle. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband, Kurt; children, Dawn Kelley (Sheldon Levin), Jenette (Wayne) Maas, Susan Canale, David (Marion) Kelley and Kurt Kelley (Dori Heidt-Kelley); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Goldenstein and Jane Shea; brothers, Gene Fischer and Jon Fischer and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Neal Fischer; sister, Pamela Fischer; son-in-law, Tom Canale and nephew, Eric Fischer.
